Honeycrash - 5th March 1999 - Ynysddu rugby club.
In an arena packed to its maximum capacity, Honeycrash (formerly Sonic Molechaser) walked on stage to a massive round of applause, and proceeded to open with 'Honeycrash'. This was followed by 'Blow Up Doll' which was described by Welshy as a song about bitchy girls. Although no one was moshing, most people seemed to be enjoying theirselves. Welshy critisised the crowd for not being pissed enough and tried to get people moshing, to no success. Before long the crowd had heard a new song, 'Abdul Hakk', which no one had heard previously. I can't remember what this song was like so try asking Phil. Immediately after this was the first cover of the evening, The Offspring's 'Self Esteem'. Having never heard this track before I can't comment on the accuracy of the song, but it sounded pretty damn good to me. By this time there was still no one moshing so Welshy claimed that all people who didn't get up were gay. However, not only did this not work but also the rugby boys were pretty pissed off for being called gay The last song of the first half was another new song, 'Rugby Song', for all the rugby boys in the crowd. After this there was a short break for the group to recover. During this break the band were congratulated for a good start and Chris was told to do some movement on stage.
When back on the stage something went wrong with the p.a. and for the remainder of the gig it was harder to hear Welshy's voice. Anyway, the set continued and kicked off again with, Nirvana's 'Territorial Pissings' (With guest vocals from Kris Rowlands). Two more covers were played in the second half: 'Smash' by The Offspring and 'Good Grief' by the Foo Fighters. These were split up by 'Presidents Daughter' which Bern admits to being fed up with playing, but is still a fine song. By this time there were a few of us moshing, well four, me, Phil (the author of this site), Pex (a long man) and Will. Another guy, Jabba, was up but walking about drunkenly. And one person, who shall remain nameless, did some 'alternative moshing' which consisted of squatting down and hopping across the floor. Unfortunately the set couldn't last much longer and they closed with an old song, 'Scary Mary', then left the stage to the frenzied cheering of the audience. (Sorry I didn't go into much detail over the music but I was so drunk I forgot what most of it was like by the next morning. I do however, remember enjoying it immensely) You would really love them live (after all, the type of music they play is suited to playing live.
