Biography: Super Furry Animals @ WelshBands
The band formed in Cardiff in 1993 after Gruff and Dafydd split from a techno/indie outfit called Ffa Coffi Pawb (direct tranlation, everyone's coffie beans. Subliminal tranlation, Fuck off everyone - Fuck-off-i-pawb). During Gruff and Dafydd's two years in the band, along with Dewi Emlyn and Rhodri Puw while touring around Brittany and Wales.
All the band members had been in other welsh languages bands before coming together as the Super Furry Animals, 1n 1993. A pre-Super Furry Animals and Ffa Coffi Pawb trio of Gruff, Guto, and Daf toured with Anhrefn in Europe.
After a period of inactivity the Super Furry Animals began in earnest. They released two EP's on the Welsh indie label Ankst which were recorded with producer Gorwell Owens in his home studio in the Anglesey village of Llanfaelog. They signed to Creation after Alan McGee saw them at their first London show at the Splash Club. They also have a clause in their contract with Creation that says they never have to work on St. Davids Day.
During the "Creation" period they released the four albums, "Fuzzy Logic" (May 1996), "Radiator" (August 1997), "Outspaced" (B-sides Album, Novermber 1998), and "Guerrilla" (June 1999). Creation records folded in March 2000, however this provided a unique opportunity for the Super Furry Animals to release an album sung entirely in Welsh. "Mwng" (May 2000) was released on Placid Casual Records on a label formed by the band. It was recorded with £6000 given to the band by Creation.
